Calkadies is a family run centre, located in a small village called Cwmavon in Port Talbot. The main aim of the centre is to help all. Every Part of the centre has been designed for all ages and all incomes. The owners Paul & Charlotte Galsworthy has listened to the advice and needs from professional and local people who work very hard to better the standard of life and future of tomorrow’s children.
The Centre’s core is very basic and simple “Back to Basics but with the luxuries of life” Life is a wonderful thing and is filled with lots of pleasures big and small. The owners hope that good old fashioned values can be brought back especially to our children for example:
To allow an OAP, disabled person or pregnant woman to have a seat before oneself : To open a door for a person in need : Pass a stranger in the street and say hello or goodnight to make that person feel safe: Use manners at all times: Help others because you want to, not to gain a reward : Be part of a team/sport/dance group to enjoy rather than win : Play for a passion rather than a reward. These are just some basic simple steps which cost nothing but can make a huge difference in our future. remember filling washing up bottles to soak your friends as fun, now it is who has the biggest water pistol and who’s cost the most. I think most will agree that it was more fun and cheaper with the washing up bottles.

The games such as hopscotch, kick a can, football and many more which played outside in the fresh air till mam or dad called you in. How many can you remember? If you cant remember any than ask a parent or grandparent about their memories and what games they used to play as children. We as a society are allowing the innocence and fun of childhood be taken away with glamour and greed wishing our children's lives to be lived sometimes the way we wished we had lived ours. I personally can never understand why children play certain sports. They get up early on the weekend in all weathers to run around listening to their parents/family shouting at them, abusive comments to or from the visiting team players and families and then in the clubhouse later hearing all the excuses as to why they didn’t win such as a fix etc There is only a small amount of “well done!” “did you enjoy” children should be taught that it is about being part of the action and enjoying the sport being a true SPORTSMAN win or lose.
The centre wants all children & Adults of all ages and levels of ability to participate in something they enjoy or would like to try, we are always looking for new ideas and will always try and help people to achieve their own personal goals, whether fitness, learning or social. We wish to encourage families to take precious time out for each other from the hectic lives to cherish memories made together as one day they will be all you have as so many of us has already experienced.
The centre is a very warm and inviting building with already lots of great personal memories for so many past members and we are glad to see them back with us.
We as a centre wish to be part of all sport local leagues so that all people will have the chance to play rather than wish or watch week in week out from the side lines of a sport they love.
